At Rhyddings, part of the LET Education Trust, our History curriculum aims to inspire curiosity about the past and help students understand how people, power, and ideas have shaped the world they live in today. Guided by our school ethos \u2014 \u201cWe always try our personal best and accept no excuses\u201d<\/em> \u2014 we expect every pupil to engage deeply with the stories, struggles, and achievements that define human experience.<\/p>\n History at Rhyddings is taught as an ongoing conversation between past and present. From the Romans to the modern world, pupils explore how migration, empire, belief, and resistance have influenced societies and identities. These four golden threads<\/em> run through all our topics, helping pupils to see history not as isolated events, but as an interconnected story that explains who we are and where we come from.<\/p>\n Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that knowledge builds over time. In the early years, pupils develop a strong sense of chronology and learn to ask historical questions about evidence, cause, and consequence. As they progress, they deepen their understanding through focused enquiries that explore different periods and perspectives \u2014 from the Black Death and the Tudors to the transatlantic slave trade, industrialisation, and post-war migration. By Key Stage 4, pupils apply their skills to GCSE studies such as Crime and Punishment<\/em>, Elizabethan England<\/em>, The American West<\/em>, and Conflict at Home and Abroad<\/em>.<\/p>\n We believe that history should be inclusive, relevant, and thought-provoking. Lessons combine knowledge-rich content with opportunities for discussion, analysis, and debate. Pupils are encouraged to challenge interpretations, consider different viewpoints, and understand how evidence is used to build arguments. Through this process, they develop resilience, empathy, and critical thinking \u2014 qualities that reflect the values of the LET Education Trust and prepare our young people to be active, informed citizens.<\/p>\n
